IN ADVANCE OF YOUR PROCEDURE:
- Make arrangements for a responsible adult to stay with you for at least 24 hours following your procedure (not necessary for patients receiving local anesthesia).
THE NIGHT BEFORE PROCEDURE:
- Do not eat or drink after midnight. If your procedure is later in the day, the Registered Nurse may give you instructions to have clear liquids up to 8 hours prior to your surgery. You may take any medication the Registered Nurse has instructed you to take the day of surgery with a sip of water.
- It is recommended that you refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol after midnight.
THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE:
- Brush your teeth, but do not swallow any water.
- You may shower, but please do not wear any make up or perfume.
- Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing, Make sure that your clothes will be easy to put on after surgery, depending on your procedure, and will fit over any bandages.
- If instructed, bring crutches/walker with you. You may leave them in the car unless you need them to enter the facility.
- Wear flat shoes that are easy to put on.
- Leave all valuables at home (except cash or credit card necessary for payment).
- Remove all jewelry, including body jewelry.
- If you wear contact lenses, you will be asked to remove them prior to your procedure. Please wear or bring your glasses and a contact case.
- If you use oxygen, or other equipment, please bring them with you (If you use a C-Pap machine at night, please leave this at home).
- Bring any inhalers or insulin with you if instructed to do so by the nurse.
- Children having surgery are encouraged to bring a favorite toy or blanket. Young children having surgery are to have at least one parent or guardian in the facility throughout the surgery period. Children may come in their pajamas. Please bring whatever bottle or sippy cup your child uses if they can’t drink from a cup.
- To be considerate of other patients and their families, please do not bring children under the age of 12 to the Center who are not having surgery. Also, please limit family/friends to 2 adults only.
- Bring all insurance information and picture ID with you.
